The Cow Creek Band of Umpqua Tribe of Indians says the Coquille Tribe shouldn't try to open a second casino in Oregon.
In a statement, the Cow Creek Band called the proposal "disappointing and outrageous." The tribe's attorney, Wayne Shammel, believes the Coquille casino will damage the Indian gaming industry in the state. "My belief is that most, if not all the other tribes, will be opposing this move," Shammel told The Medford Mail Tribune. The Coquille Tribe recently acquired two properties for the new casino in Medford. A land-into-trust application will be submitted to the Bureau of Indian Affairs. The tribe already operates the Mill Casino in North Bend, over three hours away from Medford. Get the Story:
