After three public meetings, the Sleeping Giant Group has yet to name a tribe for its off-reservation project.
The group is planning a $52 million casino and hotel near the Yampa Valley Regional Airport in northern Colorado. But so far there's only been a vague mention of a tribal partner. At the same time, developer Steve Hofman said his group wasn't concerned about an off-reservation casino being proposed by the Ute Tribe of Utah. “We’re just not sure that it’s a viable project,” he told local residents at a meeting last night, The Craig Daily Press reported. Hofman implied that the tribe doesn't have the finances to go through the off-reservation casino process. But the tribe has already completed a feasibility study for a casino near the town of Dinosaur in Colorado. The tribe also has existing trust lands close to Dinosaur. The nearest reservation to the Yampa airport, on the other hand, is more than 150 miles away. Get the Story:
