Assistant Secretary Larry Echo Hawk discussed the controversial Kialegee Tribal Town casino at a meeting with tribal leaders in Oklahoma.
Echo Hawk said the Bureau of Indian Affairs is examining leasing and jurisdiction issues affecting the Red Clay Casino. He indicated he is working closely with the National Indian Gaming Commission. "It's a situation that causes us to be very deliberate in how we respond," Echo Hawk said, The Tulsa World reported. "We will work in coordination with the National Indian Gaming Commission, but we want to go through this orderly process." The tribe is building the Red Clay Casino on an Indian allotment owned by two members of the Muscogee Nation.
