The board of the Lansing Economic Development Corp. in Lansing, Michigan, approved an off-reservation gaming agreement for the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians.
The board voted 6-0 to approve the agreement between the city, the tribe and the tribe's developers. Afterwards, one board member resigned after Mayor Virg Benero accused her of a conflict of interest even though she supported the casino deal. Kelly Rossman-McKinney, a public relations executive, previously worked for the tribe and its non-Indian casino in Detroit. Her current firm tried to work with the tribe on the Lansing casino but lost the contract to another company. Get the Story:
