Soo Tribe holds meetings to discuss off-reservation casino

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians is holding meetings for its members to discuss an off-reservation casino in Lansing, Michigan.

The first meetings take place today in Sault Ste. Marie. Future meetings will be held for the rest of the month.

The tribe is planning a $245 million casino in downtown Lansing, about 287 miles from Sault Ste. Marie. Lansing Mayor Virg Bernero is aggressively pursuing the casino and has come under fire for blunt remarks he made about tribal opponents of the project.
