Decision awaited in taxation of tribe's leased slot machines

Tuesday, January 24, 2012

A federal judge could rule soon on a lawsuit affecting the taxation of slot machines leased by the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation, The New London Day reports.

The town of Ledyard claims it can tax the slot machines, which are owned by a non-Indian company. Atlantic City Coin & Slot Service has been paying the taxes but the tribe says the town lacks authority to levy them.

The decision will affect another non-Indian company that leases slot machines to the tribe.
