Supreme Court won't hear Tigua Tribe appeal in gaming fight

Tuesday, January 10, 2012

The Tigua Tribe will have to face up to contempt charges in its long-running gaming dispute with the state of Texas.

Last June, the 5th Circuit Court of Appeals upheld a contempt order issued against the tribe for offering gaming devices in violation of state law. The tribe asked the high court to review the decision but the justices declined, without comment, in an order yesterday.

The 5th Circuit decision also allows the state to look at the tribe's gaming records every month to determine if there are any ongoing violations of state law.

5th Circuit Decision:
Texas v. Tigua Tribe (June 30, 2011)
