The Seneca Nation of New York launched a media campaign to urge the state to honor the Class III gaming compact.
The tribe was promised a zone of exclusivity in the compact, which was signed in 2002. But since then, non-Indian operators have expanded their gaming offerings, according to the tribe. “Over 10 years, we’ve demonstrated our expertise in this industry, our commitment to the region and our achievements in doing what we said we would with our three casinos,” President Robert Odawi Porter said in a press release. “We certainly hope and expect that state legislators and the governor would not ignore another agreement with Indians and will respect the ‘carve out’ of our exclusivity zone.” The tribe is running radio ads and has started a website, Senecas Mean Business, to highlight its contributions to the economy in western New York.
