Oneida Nation funds campaign against non-Indian casino
Tuesday, November 1, 2011
The Oneida Nation of New York is funding a campaign against a proposed non-Indian gaming facility, The Syracuse Post-Standard reports.
The tribe hired a public relations firm to recruit opposition to the video gaming raceway in Onondaga County. The expenditures included $25,000 for Internet ads and for the Stop Wilmot's Casino in Syracuse website, the paper reported
“I didn’t know that,” a local business leader who joined the anti-casino effort told the paper. “Obviously, they want to stop it so their casino can be happier.”
The tribe operates the Turning Stone Resort Casino.
