The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe of South Dakota is looking to get into the Indian gaming industry.
The tribe is the only one in the state without a casino. A council member said slot machines could be added to an existing hotel or the tribe could build a full-scale casino. “We’re saying the sooner the better for us,” council member Sharon Lee, who also chairs the tribe's gaming task force, told The Mitchell Daily Republic “I think our tribe is finally at a point where we’re ready for it.” The tribe at one point had a Class III gaming compact but it expired, according to the South Dakota Commission on Gaming.
