A federal judge says he will rule on two issues affecting the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino in Arizona.
The tribe plans to open the West Valley Resort near Glendale. The land was acquired using settlement funds that were authorized by an act of Congress. Judge David Campbell said he will rule on that issue within 100 days of May 27. That would apparently give the Interior Department, or possibly the National Indian Gaming Commission, some time to determine whether the land is eligible for a casino. Campbell also said he will rule on a claim that the casino violates the tribal-state Class III gaming compact. Get the Story:
