The city of Glendale, Arizona, has hired two lobbying firms -- in addition to a law firm -- to fight the Tohono O'odham Nation off-reservation casino.
The city is paying $6,000 a month to Policy AZ and $10,000 a month to Husk Partners. Policy AZ is a new firm that was formed by former Husk employees. "I think $6,000 is a waste of money," city council member Norma Alvarez told The Arizona Republic. "If Husk is still going to be doing some of the work with the Tohono O'odhams . . . why hire another one?" The city already has spent more than $1.3 million on a lawsuit to fight the tribe.
