The off-reservation casino proposed by the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians of Michigan is up for another hearing on Friday.
The tribe negotiated amendments to its Class III gaming compact to authorize the casino. Lawmakers introduced a bill to ratify the compact and to declare the gaming site as eligible Indian lands. But opposition from other tribes and other gaming interests has delayed approval of the bill. This Friday will be the third hearing on the project. “I feel it’s dragging it out a little bit, but I’m interested in hearing from the local community,” Larry Romanelli, the tribe's ogema, or chief, told The Muskegon Chronicle.
