Redding Rancheria switches to new utility for casino power

Thursday, June 10, 2010

The Redding Rancheria of California hopes to avoid blackouts at its casino and save money by switching to a new utility.

The tribe became a customer of Redding Electric Utility, owned by the city of Redding. The city council approved the deal on June 1, a day before a statewide referendum that could have affected the arrangement.

But voters rejected the referendum, which was bankrolled by Pacific Gas and Electric Co.. The tribe was a customer of PG&E and suffered regular blackouts at the Win-River Casino.
