Bill targeting Tohono O'odham off-reservation casino dead
Wednesday, May 12, 2010
A bill that sought to stop the Tohono O'odham Nation from pursuing an off-reservation casino died in the Arizona Legislature.
The bill allowed any municipality to annex land owned by a tribe without tribal consent. It was aimed at preventing the Tohono O'odham Nation from turning 135 acres of unincorporated land for a casino.
The tribe acquired the land for the $500 million West
Valley Resort through a land claim settlement act.
