Eastern Cherokee Band hopes to add live card games

Tuesday, January 26, 2010

The Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians hopes to renegotiate its Class III gaming compact with the state of North Carolina to include live card games.

The tribe operates slot machines and electronic poker but live card dealers aren't currently allowed under the deal. Chief Michell Hicks hopes that will change in the coming months.

With more games, the tribe plans to spend $600 million to expand the Harrah's Cherokee Casino.
