The North County Transit District in California will ask tribes to help pay for the cost of transporting people with disabilities to Indian gaming facilities in San Diego County.
Riders in the paratransit program pay $8 for a round-trip ticket to a casino. The cost to the taxpayers is estimated to be more than $200 per trip. According to The North County Times, paratransit trips to casinos account for only a small portion of the overall $4 million program. But officials still say tribes should help shoulder the cost.
