Gov. Charlie Crist (R) remains hopeful that the Florida Legislature will approve a Class III gaming compact with the Seminole Tribe.
Crist was the first governor in the state's history to come to the table with the tribe. "To me, it seems so obviously the right thing to do," he said of the agreement, The Miami Herald reported. Crist attended the United South and Eastern Tribes (USET) annual meeting on Monday. He was called "an honorable man and a friend of the tribe" by Seminole leaders, the Herald reported. The tribe has agreed to share $150 million in gaming revenues a year in exchange for slot machines and table games. Some lawmakers say the tribe shouldn't have exclusive rights to Class III games.
