BIA hears from critics of Guidiville Band casino

Monday, September 21, 2009

The Bureau of Indian Affairs is winding down the comment period on a draft environmental impact statement and environmental impact report for the casino proposed by the Guidiville Band of Pomo Indians.

The tribe plans a $1.2 billion resort on 85 acres at Point Molate, on the Richmond waterfront. The project calls for a casino with 124,000 square feet of gaming space, two hotels, shops, restaurants, a conference center, housing, tribal facilities, parks and trails.

Public hearings on the casino have mostly drawn supporters, according to news reports. But critics have faulted the EIS on traffic, crime, employment and economic impact issues.

The comment period ends Wednesday.
