The Pala Band of Mission Indians is removing a billboard that advertised the Pala Casino in southern California.
The LED billboard was erected on property owned by the tribe. But the San Diego County code enforcement chief said the brightly-lit sign violated a zoning ordinance.
"It was a misunderstanding as to who had jurisdiction on the land, and the legality of the sign," tribal attorney Howard Dickstein told The North County Times. "In any case, I think, neither the sign company nor the tribe intentionally violated county ordinances."
Neighbors complained about the bright sign as soon as it was put up.
