Seneca Nation off-reservation casino still on hold

Wednesday, May 20, 2009

The Seneca Nation won't resume construction on a permanent off-reservation casino in Buffalo, New York, until the economy improves, President Barry Snyder said.

The tribe halted work on a permanent Buffalo Creek Casino last year. Snyder said the tribe is committed to finishing the project.

"The cost of borrowing money is our main factor right now," Snyer told WNED-AM 970 News. "It's really unnecessary to move forward until the economy changes. Hopefully, that will happen soon."

The tribe is also pursuing an off-reservation casino in the Catskills region of New York.
