Florida lawmakers pass bill for Seminole compact

Monday, May 11, 2009

The Florida Legislature approved a bill that authorizes a new Class III gaming compact for the Seminole Tribe.

The deal preserves slot machines at all seven of the tribe's casinos. But the tribe will have to get rid of blackjack and other card games at four facilities.

Gov. Charlie Crist (R), who negotiated a compact with the tribe that was struck down in state court, is expected to sign the bill. The tribe hasn't stated its position on the terms of the new deal but has always been willing to negotiate and share revenues with the state.
