Seminole Tribe in quiet negotiations with governor

Thursday, April 16, 2009

The Seminole Tribe has been "quietly" negotiating a new Class III gaming compact with Gov. Charlie Crist (R), The Palm Beach Post reports.

The tribe would reportedly pay more up front to the state in order to continue offering slot machines and table games. "All I can tell you is anything is possible. I don't want to say something that could upset it or do anything," council member Max Osceola told the paper. "Why talk about something that's not finished?"

Lawmakers in the state House and the state Senate. have come up with their own rival compacts. The House is proposing to limit the tribe to slot machines while the Senate is seeking to expand Indian and non-Indian gaming statewide.
