NIGC visited Yakama Nation after casino payout

Friday, April 3, 2009

The National Indian Gaming Commission won't say whether it is investigating the Yakama Nation of Washington.

But a spokesperson for the Yakama Legends Casino said the NIGC visited the reservation after the tribe distributed $2,000 in gaming profits to its members last December. The tribe lacks a federally-approved revenue allocation plan, the spokesperson said.

Amid the dispute, the general manager for the casino resigned. Michael Hoptowit had been in a dispute with the tribe's gaming commission, the spokesperson said.
