The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of the Potawatomi Indians will open a casino along one of Michigan's busiest highways this summer.
The $300 million FireKeepers Casino, on I-94 in Battle Creek, will boost the economy, Chairwoman Laura Spurr said. "This will be an economic boost to the area. But it's not something we thought would be nice just for the tribe," Spurr told The Detroit Free Press. "It will be nice for the whole area."
The 107,000-square-foot casino will employ 1,500 people. Construction has created 700 jobs.
"My feel is that based on its location ... that casino has a better chance of doing well than any other casino in the state," a local business leader told the paper.
