Connecticut tribes look elsewhere for business

Monday, February 9, 2009

Connecticut's two federally recognized tribes continue to look for out-of-state for opportunities even as revenues at their casinos have taken a hit during the recession.

The Mohegan Tribe already opened a slot machine facility in Pennsylvania. The tribe hopes to land a commercial casino in Massachusetts and is backing a long-delayed tribal casino in Washington and an off-reservation casino in Wisconsin that was rejected by the Bush administration.

The Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation is also in the Pennsylvania market but has yet to open a facility. The tribe is backing tribal projects elsewhere too.
