Band of Miwok Indians said 10,000 people lined up for the opening of the Red Hawk Casino on Wednesday.
Traffic was backed up on a major highway leading to the $530 million facility. But customers were pleased with what they found.
"I think it's marvelous, absolutely gorgeous," one customer said, noting: "It's a shorter trip than Tahoe or Jackson."
The casino is located east of Sacramento, in an area with three other tribal facilities.
