Fond du Lac Band questions revenue sharing

Karen Diver , the chairwoman of the Fond du Lac Band of Lake Superior Chippewa, says her tribe isn't benefiting from a casino in downtown Duluth, Minnesota.

The tribe contributes 19 percent of gross revenues from the Fond-du-Luth Casino to the city. Last year, that came to about $6.4 million, money that Diver says could be used on the reservation.

“When I’m struggling up here with housing issues, health-care issues, education issues, $6.4 million adds up to be a lot of money,” that Diver told The Duluth News Tribune. “Good things can be done here with that.”

The revenue sharing arrangement ends in 2036 but a city official said it can be renegotiated as early as next year.
