Pauma Band reaches casino agreement with county
Tuesday, July 29, 2008
The Pauma Band of Luiseno Indians reached a memorandum of understanding with San Diego County, California, over the tribe's $300 million casino resort.
The tribe will pay $38 million for road improvements around the new Casino Pauma. The agreement also calls for $400,000 a year for sheriff's protection, $40,000 for prosecuting casino-related crimes and $200,000 for gambling addiction treatment.
Under its Class III gaming compact, the tribe is required to negotiate agreements to address the impacts of gaming. The tribe has already scaled back plans for the casino in response to local concerns.
