The National Labor Relations Board has approved the first union at a tribal casino.
The 2-0 decision overruled objections from the Mashantucket Pequot Tribal Nation of Connecticut, owners of the Foxwoods Resort Casino. The tribe had challenged the use of English ballots for Chinese-speaking employees. The NLRB did not address tribal sovereignty issues. Chairman Peter Schaumber, who participated in the decision, has said he objects to the imposition of federal labor law on tribes.
