NIGC audits Cheyenne-Arapaho gaming revenues

Wednesday, June 25, 2008

The National Indian Gaming Commission recently concluded an audit of the Cheyenne and Arapaho Tribes of Oklahoma.

The NIGC said $8.8 million in gaming revenues was diverted to a bank account controlled by the tribe's treasurer, who is now a legislator. The money, however, was used for tribal programs as intended.

Tribal legislators requested the audit in hopes of uncovering misspending by Gov. Darrell Flyingman. Instead, the NIGC found that Flyingman was bypassed on some gaming and gaming-related matters.

According to the audit, the tribe took in $26.6 million in 2006 and $26.8 million in 2007 from its Lucky Star casinos.
