The city council in Omaha, Nebraska, voted to support the efforts of the state to block the Ponca Tribe from opening a casino in Iowa.
The tribe, whose headquarters are in Nebraska, has trust land in Carter Lake, Iowa. Due the shifting Missouri River, Carter Lake is completely surrounded by Nebraska. As a result, Nebraska attorney general Jon Bruning claims the state is affected by the casino in a lawsuit against the Interior Department. Nebraska bars Class III gaming while Iowa does not. Carter Lake is only a few miles from downtown Omaha. Get the Story:
