A federal magistrate agreed to stay a decision that ordered California Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger (R) to negotiate a new compact with the Rincon Band of Mission Indians.
On April 29, Judge William McCurine Jr. ruled that the state was negotiating in bad faith. He ordered the two sides to come to the table within 60 days. On Schwarzenegger's request, McCurine agreed to delay action on a temporary basis. He could make the stay permanent as the state pursues the case before the 9th Circuit Court of Appeals.
