Santa Ysabel Band hires new casino manager

The Santa Ysabel Band of Diegueño Indians has hired a new manager for the Santa Ysabel Casino and Resort.

Don Trimble has managed other tribal gaming facilities. He says he was hired to get the casino back on track.

"The casino wasn't performing up to expectations and that's why I'm here," Trimble told The North County Times.

The tribe opened the $27 million, 35,000-square-foot facility almost a year ago. But business hasn't been going so well and the tribe hasn't made its payment to the county under a 2003 compact.

The compact also requires the tribe to pay 5 percent of net profits to the state. That money hasn't been paid either, the California Gambling Control Commission said.
