Seminole Tribe debuts slot machines at casino
Tuesday, January 29, 2008
The Seminole Tribe debuted 800 slot machines at its Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in Hollywood., Florida, on Monday.
The tribe signed a Class III compact that allows for 2,500 slot machines at the facility. The agreement went into effect earlier this month.
"It is a long time overdue that we have this historic day,'' said Seminole Hard Rock CEO Jim Allen, The Miami Herald reported.
The compact faces a legal challenge from Republicans. The Florida Supreme Court is due to hear oral arguments tomorrow.
The tribe is paying $100 million to the state in the first year of operation. The payment increases to $150 million by the third year and will be based on a percentage of revenues after that.
