Nottawaseppi Huron Band moves casino forward

The Nottawaseppi Huron Band of Potawatomi is moving forward with its $270 million FireKeepers Casino in Emmett Township, Michigan.

The tribe won approval of its gaming management contract with Full House Resorts. "We are hopeful Tribe will be successful with their gaming operations well into the future and are able to provide funding for education, healthcare, infrastructure and other important needs in their community," said National Indian Gaming Commission Chairman Phil Hogen.

The decision came after the Interior Department proclaimed a 78-acre reservation for the tribe, which gained federal recognition in 1995. The land can be used for a casino under an exception in the Indian Gaming Regulatory Act that applies to newly recognized tribes.

The tribe also announced Clark Construction Co. to oversee construction of the new casino. The project will create about 700 temporary construction jobs.
