Grande Ronde Tribe runs ad against Cowlitz casino
Monday, November 12, 2007
An Oregon tribe is running a television ad in Washington against the Cowlitz Tribe's proposed casino.
The ad asks viewers to call two commissioners in Clark County and urge them not to negotiate a casino agreement with the Cowlitz Tribe. Nearly 200 people have done just that -- though 45 called to support the commissioners.
The ad, however, doesn't mention who paid for it -- the Confederated Tribes of Grand Ronde in Oregon. The sponsor is identified as Citizens for a Healthy Clark County even though the Grand Ronde don't live anywhere near the county.
"I do not believe the Grand Ronde tribe cares about Clark County," commissioner Steve Stuart, one of the targets of the ad, tells The Columbian.
The Grand Ronde operate the Spirit Mountain Casino, which is about 90 miles from the proposed Cowlitz casino.
