Wednesday, October 24, 2007

A Michigan tribe whose federal recognition is being debated in Congress wants to open a casino in Muskegon.

The Grand River Band of Ottawa Indians has partnered with the Archimedes Group for a $2.4 billion casino on the downtown waterfront. Plans for the project were unveiled on Monday night.

The tribe is asking Congress for legislative recognition. A spokesperson for Archimedes said the tribe was "on the cusp" of success.

Archimedes has financed the tribe's efforts with more than $2 million over the last five years.
