BIA extends deadline for Seminole compact

Tuesday, October 9, 2007

The Bureau of Indian Affairs has extended the deadline for the Seminole Tribe and the state of Florida to reach a Class III gaming compact.

The BIA has been pushing the state to finalize a deal. If one isn't reached, the agency plans to issue procedures to allow the tribe to operate slot machines.

The new deadline for an agreement is October 15. Past deadlines, however, have been extended due to progress in the negotiations.

Some outstanding issues include whether the tribe can offer Class III games other than slot machines. The state's share of revenues is still being debated [Draft of Compact]
