Oneida Nation denied liquor licenses at casino
Thursday, October 4, 2007
The New York State Liquor Authority denied all six liquor license applications by the Oneida Nation over questions about tribal sovereignty.
The board cited "numerous" outstanding legal issues, including questions about taxation and the legality of the Turning Stone Casino & Resort.
The tribe doesn't pay property taxes or sales taxes and the casino site is located on land that is not held in trust.
The board said the tribe could reapply for the licenses once the issues are resolved. The tribe said it might revive its bring-you-own alcohol policy.
