The town of Middleboro, Massachusetts, doesn't have enough money to pay for a vote on the Mashpee Wampanoag Tribe's proposed casino agreement.
The vote, to be held July 28, will cost more than $120,000. But the town only has $50,000 in reserves. The tribe wants to build a casino resort in the town and offered to pay $7 million a year plus $150 million in infrastructure improvements. The town responded with a higher proposal, which the tribe rejected as "hostile." The two sides continue to negotiate and say they will have an agreement in time for the vote. Get the Story:
