Little Traverse Bay Bands debuts new casino

Friday, June 22, 2007

The Little Traverse Bay Bands of Odawa Indians in Michigan debuted the new Odawa Casino Resort on Wednesday.

Tribal leaders and members hailed the arrival of the facility. Elders who helped the tribe regain federal recognition in 1994 expressed awe at the size and beauty of the casino.

“What does one do with a dream?” 72-year-old Harriet Kishigo Booth, who testified before Congress for recognition, told The Petoskey News-Review. “It’s going to take a while to sink in.”

The tribe opened its first casino, the Victories, in July 1999.
