The Wyandotte Nation of Oklahoma has returned to Kansas City, Kansas, to resurrect its casino.
The tribe owns land in the city that is held in trust. The tribe opened a Class II facility there but it was shut down after a raid by the state. The 10th Circuit Court of Appeals later ruled that the state lacked authority to enter the land. Then a federal judge said the Interior Department erred by rejecting the tribe's casino plans. Yet another ruling rejected the state's claims that the land can't be used for gaming. A ruling on the gaming issue is still pending before the court.
