The California Senate Governmental Organization is holding a hearing today on gaming compacts for three tribes.
The deals would allow the Agua Caliente Band of Cahuilla Indians and Morongo Band of Mission Indians to operate more slot machines and expand their operations. A third agreement would allow the Yurok Tribe to open its first casino. On Thursday, the Senate committee will hear from the Pechanga Band of Luiseno Indians and the San Manuel Band of Mission Indians. Another tribe, the Sycuan Band of Kumeyaay Indians, also signed a new compact. The tribes will share slot machine revenues with the state. The compacts could bring in an extra $500 million a year.
