Shingle Springs Band to break ground on casino

Tuesday, April 10, 2007

The Shingle Springs Band of Miwok Indians plan to break ground on a casino on April 26.

The tribe proposed the 85,000-square-foot Foothill Oaks Casino but ran into local opposition. The tribe eventually signed an agreement with El Dorado County to pay at least $190 million over 20 years to offset impacts of the facility.

The deal includes $104 million for a highway interchange project at the casino site. The interchange will provide direct access from Highway 50 to 160 acres of tribal land.

The casino is set to open in fall 2008.
