The Prairie Band Potawatomi Nation of Kansas is preparing a lawsuit against the state in hopes of stopping plans for new casinos.
Chairwoman Tracy Stanhoff said plans for several state-operated casinos would hurt the tribe. "Our biggest challenge is the state of Kansas putting Indians down," she told The Topeka Capital-Journal.
Stanhoff criticized Gov. Kathleen Sebelius (D) for supporting a bill to authorize the casinos. "We donated to the inauguration. But we can't even get a meeting with the governor," Stanhoff said.
Kansas has four casinos operated by four tribes. Some of the tribes have proposed off-reservation casinos.
