The mayor of Ocean Springs says she may be committing "political suicide" for publicly supporting the off-reservation casino sought by the Mississippi Band of Choctaw Indians.
Mayor Connie Moran thinks the casino will have a positive impact on the community. But she said the tribe needs to explain how it will address the impacts of a gaming facility. Chief Phillip Martin says the tribe won't move forward without the support of Jackson County. He asked the county to schedule a non-binding referendum in 2008. The tribe owns 100 acres in the Ocean Springs, more than 200 miles from the reservation. The site is located near a major interstate. Get the Story:
