Graton Rancheria offers funds to keep hospital open

Wednesday, March 14, 2007

The Federated Indians of Graton Rancheria are offering to keep the Sutter Medical Center in Sacramento, California, up and running.

The tribe wants to open a casino in the Bay Area. The project is still in the federal review process but chairman Greg Sarris said the tribe's partner, Station Casinos, could provide funds for the hospital.

"The money's there," he said, The Santa Rosa Press-Democrat reported.

Once the casino is open, Sarris said the tribe could work on an agreement to fund the hospital. Due to budget shortfalls, the hospital is set to close at the end of the year.
