The Picayune Rancheria of Chukchansi Indians has reached a settlement with Madera County of California to clear the way for a casino expansion.
The tribe will pay the county $13 million to resolve four pending lawsuits. The tribe also will pay for police and fire services, as well as mental-health services, for off-reservation impacts of the casino. The tribe plans to add a hotel and parking structure to the Chukchansi Gold Resort & Casino. The county held up a land-into-trust application that was part of the project and asserted jurisdiction over the expansion site. Get the Story:
