The United Keetoowah Band of Oklahoma says 71 percent of residents in Fort Smith, Arkansas, support a casino in their city.
The tribe has asked the Bureau of Indian Affairs to place land in trust for a casino. The application was filed last spring amid legislative attempts to curb off-reservation gaming. The tribe operates a casino in Oklahoma, but its legal status has been questioned by the state.
